Create templates from standard text elements
This feature allows you to build a document template based on a "base template", and different text elements. The combination of a base template and text elements is referred to as a "composite template" in the admin interface. For end-users, this is just a normal template, because they cannot tell that the template is built from different text elements.
Below is an example of this feature.
To understand how the feature works, the following terms are important:
- Template.
- Base template.
- Built template.
- Text elements.
Template: just a template. A template that has been uploaded, and is available to end-users in its final form.
Base template: the "skeleton" on which new composite templates are built.
Built template: a base template with any number of text elements added to it. For the end-user, a built template looks and behaves exactly as a normal template.
Texts elements: texts which have been uploaded to the text library.
In short: A template is just a template. A base template with text elements added is a built template in the admin interface, but a normal template to the end-user.
Some of the benefits of the built templates feature include:
- Multiple templates can be built by using only one base template and multiple text elements, and vice versa.
- If a text element is assigned to multiple templates, then all the templates will automatically be updated if changes occur to the original element. The same applies to base templates.
- Existing, as well as new, text elements within the text library can be used for building a template.
Base Templates
1. Base templates can be found in the control pane on the left hand side of the web app (A). New base templates can also easily be added here (B).
2. Clicking on one of the base templates will show which templates it is assigned to (C).
Build templates
1. Go to Libraries, select a template library and click on "Build template" (A).
2. Create a name for the template (B).
3. Choose a desired Base template from the drop down menu (C).
4. Choose a desired Text element (from the text library). Note that if you wish to add more than one text element, the one standing higher in the line will be imputed first (D). In this example, "Employment-Benefits" will be imputed first, and new text element (E) will be imputed second.
5. Finally, add forms and plugins.
6. Finish by clicking "Create".
